Crossan Elementary School, 7350 Bingham St., recently held an end-of-year Play Day in its schoolyard. There were games and interactive activities for the students.

The Lawncrest July 4th Celebration will mark its 100th anniversary this year, with the theme being “A Century of Tradition.”

Checkpoints set up over holiday weekend


City pools now open for summer

As of July 1, all city-operated pools will have been opened for the summer season following a two-week kickoff program. Pools are now open at numerous Northeast Philadelphia recreation centers and public facilities including Max Myers, Fox Chase, Vogt, Lincoln High, Simpson, Jardel, American Legion park in Tacony, Lawncrest, Mitchell, Jacobs and Houseman.

Ten-year-old donates $2,500 to the Center for Autism

Santino Stagliano, a 10-year-old from South Philadelphia, recently donated $2,500 to The Center for Autism, 2801 Grant Ave.


Cancer Treatment Centers of America hosts therapeutic laughter session

Cancer Treatment Centers of America, 1331 E. Wyoming Ave., recently hosted a session on therapeutic laughter with the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor in conjunction with the hospital’s sponsorship of AATH’s 28th annual conference at the Hilton hotel at Penn’s Landing.


Free mental health aid is now available

Mental Health First Aid, a free early intervention and public education training program, is available in the Philadelphia area.
