A centenarian celebration

100 years young: Laura Felice will celebrate her 100th birthday on Friday, May 20. The soon-to-be centenarian recently got a head start on celebrating the big milestone when the Maternity BVM Seniors threw her a birthday party. Felice is pictured with state Sen. John Sabatina Jr. and Theresa Canuso, president of BVM Seniors.

Support group available for vets

A new veterans’ peer support group is inviting U.S. military veterans who served in Iraq, Afghanistan and other combat situations to join weekly meetings at Aria Health’s Torresdale hospital starting on May 16. The Monday sessions will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Mansion House conference room at 10800 Knights Road.

Showing love for the parks

Green living: A tree planting program held at Pleasant Hill Park in East Torresdale on Saturday kicked off the fifth annual LOVE Your Park Week. City officials and volunteers picked up litter, mulched trees and garden beds and planted trees. City Councilman Al Taubenberger (foreground) helped plant trees during the event. 

Scholars: May 11, 2016

As part of its Inquiry 2016 activities, Lebanon Valley College recognized students for academic achievement in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. Local students include Jessica Coughlin, a graduate of Philadelphia Academy Charter School who is pursuing a bachelor of arts in English and sociology, who won the Senior Award for Academic Excellence in Sociology; and Ryan Muldoon, a graduate of Father Judge High School who is pursuing a bachelor of science in accounting, who won the Achievement Scholarship Award in Business Administration.
