Local man awarded for outstanding community service

The Engineers’ Club of Philadelphia presented Somerton resident Ruben David with its 2014 Outstanding Service to the Community Award on Feb. 14. The award recognizes an engineer who has over the course of his career provided professional and personal service above and beyond the call of duty to the Delaware Valley community. David was honored during Delaware Valley Engineers Week, which is part of a national engineering observance.


Local Eagle Scout soars

Nicholas Kozankywycz, of Burholme, became Boy Scout Troop 321’s latest Eagle Scout earlier this month, during a Court of Honor at the Presentation BVM church hall.

Power outage in Frankford

The lights went out in the Frankford branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia about 6:15 p.m. Monday as patrons were checking out books and PhillyRising was conducting a session in the library’s basement meeting room.


History event at Sankofa
