Free health screenings for veterans

Nazareth Hospital will host free health screenings for U.S. military veterans on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Marian Conference Center at Nazareth Hospital, 2601 Holme Ave.

Local athlete wins at Senior Games

Somerton resident Anne Kalanty won three gold medals at the recent Pennsylvania Senior Games, held in Hershey. Kalanty, 85, finished in first place in three tennis categories. By winning, she earned a bid to the National Senior Games, to be held in July 2015.

Hazardous waste to be collected Nov. 8

The Streets Department will hold its last Household Hazardous Drop-off event of the 2014 season on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 3901 Delaware Ave., between Castor Avenue and Lewis Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.


A spooky scene

The Mayfair Civic Association last week selected three houses as the winners of its second annual Halloween decoration contest. The winning homes are located on the 3200 block of Friendship St., the 3300 block of Glenview St. and the 2800 block of Fanshawe St. A panel of judges scored the 36 houses that were nominated for the contest.
