Temple University Health System last week honored state Sen. Christine Tartaglione and state Rep. Kevin Boyle for delivering Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program funding for projects at Fox Chase Cancer Center and Jeanes Hospital.

Among those thanking Tartaglione and Boyle were Michael Young, president and CEO, TUHS; Dr. Marc P. Hurowitz, executive director, Jeanes, who is retiring July 1; and Dr. Robert Uzzo, interim CEO, FCCC.

Tartaglione said her mom received good care at Jeanes and her sister was treated well at Fox Chase. While redistricting will take her out of the 63rd Ward, she plans to continue to support the facilities as a Temple board trustee.

“Money comes with seniority,” said Tartaglione, in office for 28 years and guaranteed another four, as she is unopposed in November.

RACP funds will support capital projects to improve and expand clinical facilities at Jeanes Campus and Fox Chase.

Specifically, Hurowitz said the Jeanes emergency room will be expanded to lower wait time in a department that sees 40,000 visitors a year.

As for Fox Chase, Uzzo said there are plans to expand and modernize the National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Boyle described Fox Chase as “a world-class cancer treatment facility,” while Hurowitz labeled Jeanes as a community hospital with academic-level care.

Boyle and Tartaglione were given flowers and a glass vase with an inscription of appreciation. ••
