Take Back Your Neighborhood civic gets advice about voting

Members of the Take Back Your Neighborhood civic association last week heard from city elections commissioner Stephanie Singer and Assistant District Attorney Jacqueline Coelho.

Singer explained that Oct. 5 is the deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 4 general election. Forms are available at www.votespa.com

Absentee ballot applications are already available.

In other news from the July 21 meeting:

• The Israel Scouts Friendship Caravan will perform Hebrew and English songs and dances on Thursday, Aug. 7, at 5:45 p.m. at Congregations of Shaare Shamayim, 9768 Verree Road.

The event is free and for all ages.

Guests can meet the Scouts before and after the show. Supper will be served, with falafel, tuna and egg salad on the menu.

• Take Back Your Neighborhood will host its annual Northeast Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Max Myers Playground, at 1601 Hellerman St.

The free event will take place rain or shine. It will feature food, games, music, literature, blood pressure screenings, children’s fingerprinting, Zumba and appearances by representatives of the Philadelphia Zoo and the Academy of Natural Sciences.

Catholic Community Services has donated 100 schoolbags, which will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

• The Rhawnhurst Naturally Occurring Retirement Community will hold a luncheon on Thursday, Aug. 28, at noon at Ner Zedek Synagogue, 7520 Bustleton Ave.

The cost is $5. There’s a choice of egg salad, tuna salad or seafood salad. It includes a beverage, side salad and dessert.

The nutrition department of the Immaculate Mary Home will present Cooking for One or Two With Fruits & Vegetables.

Transportation is available for residents of the 19111, 19114, 19115, 19116, 19149 and 19152 ZIP codes.
