Boyle visits NE Airport, Aviation Institute of Maintenance facility

The congressman addressed the importance of protecting jobs connected to federal Department of Homeland Security funding for regional airports.

U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-13th dist.) last week toured Northeast Philadelphia Airport, meeting with senior managers, touring two aviation businesses that operate on the property and learning more about the impact those businesses have on the regional economy and the aviation industry.

Boyle also addressed the importance of protecting jobs connected to federal Department of Homeland Security funding for regional airports.

The congressman toured the Leonardo Helicopters building (formerly AgustaWestland Corporation), where he met with management and employees. He saw several of the projects being worked on, including a new fixed wing aircraft model being tested at the airport. Leonardo employs 533 people.

Boyle also visited the Aviation Institute of Maintenance facility. AIM is a vocational school that teaches aviation maintenance as part of a 21-month-long program. Students graduate with the opportunity to take tests to obtain an FAA maintenance license. At present, there are about 285 students, including 70 who are military veterans or reservists. ••
