Manor men’s basketball competes in national tourney

Freshman guard Manny Roach

For the second time in three years, Manor College’s men’s basketball team qualified for the USCAA National Championship Tournament.

“It feels great,” said senior captain Eddie Fortescue Jr. “It’s a great experience for the whole team. We get to travel to Virginia and hopefully get some business done.”

The Blue Jays were named the seventh seed in the USCAA National Championship Tournament. They lost, 87-66, to Bryant & Stratton College – Buffalo on Sunday at Richard Bland College in Petersburg, Virginia.

The 2023-24 season became a season of highlights for the Blue Jays. They finished the season 12-6, including a 6-2 record in the Eastern States Athletic Conference. Their record includes two overtime wins and a buzzer-beater victory over rival Bucks County Community College.

Manny Roach, a freshman shooting guard, is fourth in the USCAA in scoring, averaging 19.9 points per game, which is tops on the team.

“It feels good, especially being a freshman, my first year playing college basketball,” Roach said. “Going down there is one thing, but we have to go down there and compete. Of course, the end goal is to bring home a national championship.”

The team achieved individual success as well. Roach was named the USCAA Division 1 Player of the Week for Jan. 30 to Feb. 6. Cheikh Diagne, a sophomore forward from Northeast High, received the same award three weeks later. ••
