Carmella, who would have turned 102 on July 25, died the day before the 27th anniversary of her husband’s passing.

Rizzo, a law-and-order former police commissioner who served two terms as mayor in the 1970s, was seeking a comeback in 1991. He had won the Republican primary and was facing Democrat Ed Rendell when he collapsed and died at his Center City campaign headquarters. There is a statue of Rizzo outside the Municipal Services Building, but Mayor Jim Kenney announced the city will move it after outcries from Councilwoman Helen Gym and other liberals.

Mrs. Rizzo’s funeral Mass will be on Friday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at Our Mother of Consolation Church in Chestnut Hill. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. She will be buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Our Mother of Consolation Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118. ••
