The first Mayfair Spring Arts Festival will take place on Saturday, April 14, along Frankford Avenue from Princeton Avenue to Tyson Avenue.

The event is for people of all ages.

The rain date is April 21.

At the news conference, City Councilman Bobby Henon and the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program will discuss seven murals that will be created throughout the 6th Councilmanic District in upcoming months.

The festival organizing committee met last week at Stein Your Florist Co. to finalize plans and is hoping to attract a crowd of about 500.

More than 20 artists will attend.

Dunphy Motors has donated a minivan that will be painted by Art History 101 owner Jay Pross.

Also being painted will be the three trash cans at Frankford and Princeton. The Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion will lead butterfly-themed crafts. St. Hubert High School cheerleaders and dancers will perform, and students will make crafts and design postcards. Factory Donuts will design an artsy-looking doughnut.

The afternoon will also include live art demonstrations, face painting, caricatures, tattoo art, sculpting, photography, painting, tile cutting, balloon art, floral designs, art sales, rooftop entertainment, musicians from the School of Rock and Settlement Music School, jewelry creations, quilts, hair styling, food trucks, water ice, beer, wine, a roulette wheel with prizes, silk flowers for women and ice cream, hot dog and popcorn carts.

Sponsors are Stein Florist, Dunphy Ford, Henon, the city, the Mayfair Business Improvement District, Tacony Arts Lab and Art History 101.
