Local girl treats police with lemonade stand proceeds

A 6-year-old girl spent two days holding a lemonade stand — and donated the proceeds.

Small wonder: Brianna Knowles sold lemonade, soft pretzels, cookies and cinnamon rolls outside her home in Millbrook. She made $210, which she used to feed police officers in the 8th Police District. TOM WARING / TIMES PHOTO

Brianna Knowles, soon to be a first-grader at Stephen Decatur Elementary School, spent two days late in her summer vacation holding a lemonade stand to benefit the 8th Police District.

Brianna, 6, sold lemonade, soft pretzels, cookies and cinnamon rolls outside her home on Andrea Road in Millbrook.

In all, she made $210.

Last Friday, she and her mom, Meghan, visited the 8th district to feed the police officers working that day. The officers were treated to pizza, doughnuts, blueberry and chocolate chip muffins, chips and soda.

Brianna, wearing a shirt with the words “Not All Heroes Wear Capes” inside a police shield, said she did her good deed “because I like police officers.”

During her visit, she met community relations officer Patricia Rosati and Capt. Adam Friedman, commander of the 8th district.

The little girl toured the district, visiting the operations room, court hearing/roll call room, locker rooms, jail cells and holding rooms for missing children. She also saw posters hanging on walls of wanted suspects and got to sit in Friedman’s chair, the judge’s chair, in a patrol car and pushed the lights and siren buttons on a dirt bike.

In appreciation, Friedman, Rosati and the 8th Police District Advisory Council gave Brianna a citation naming her an honorary police officer, a Razor scooter and helmet and a goody bag filled with coloring books, candy, stuffed animals and lollipops. ••
