Holme Circle Civic Association in dire need of members

It’s now or never for the Holme Circle Civic Association … almost.

During the civic group’s monthly meeting on Sept. 26, executive board member Joe Razler warned members that more participation is needed in the organization’s leadership structure. Otherwise, the group could disband.

“We need to establish leadership for this organization. We only have a treasurer and a board member, myself, right now,” Razler said. “We need a committee.”

Mike Gould fills the treasurer position, but the offices of president, vice president and secretary, in addition to several at-large board spots, have remained vacant in recent years with nobody volunteering to fill those roles.

The group will continue to meet through next spring, but the future remains uncertain.

“At the end of the [spring], if we don’t have a viable leadership, the organization will be dissolved,” Razler said.

Some of the more-involved neighbors created a membership committee and met several times last summer to plan recruiting efforts. They floated ideas such as a water ice party at a local business or a movie night. But nothing came to fruition.

The civic group may try to implement those programs after the winter, Gould said, but the leaders are looking for other ideas, too.

One woman suggested that the civic group promote itself at the monthly Mayfair farmers markets, which seem to draw crowds from many different neighborhoods.

Membership is important for the financial health of the civic group, too, Razler said. Some folks join and pay dues once, but don’t renew their memberships.

“Membership is not lifelong,” Razler said. “It’s for a year.”

Residents of the Holme Circle community are invited to attend the next civic meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m., in the St. Jerome’s School library, Stamford and Colfax streets. ••
