Incipient Fire Suppression Training classes available

The Hospital Fire Marshals’ Association (HFMA) has arranged for Incipient Fire Suppression Training directed toward healthcare and educational facilities. The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requires employees having such responsibilities to receive annual training.

The association provides the training twice a year to support healthcare and educational facilities not having the capabilities to train their personnel given the responsibilities to use portable fire extinguishers to suppress an incipient fire.

The training has been arranged to meet the OSHA standard and NFPA 600, the National Fire Protection Association’s standard. Instructors of this training include veterans of the Philadelphia Fire Department, healthcare safety managers and professional fire response personnel assigned to the Montgomery County Fire Academy.

Students will learn the accepted practice for fire discovery, fire suppression and evacuation. They will become familiar with the multiple classes of fire and the best method for their suppression. Participants will leave understanding the “Defend-in-Place” concept and become familiar with the various tools used to prevent and/or suppress fires. Training includes classroom and hands-on use of fire extinguishers and first-aid hoseline. A certificate will be awarded for successful completion of the program for documentation.

The cost for the eight-hour training class is $75, and includes morning coffee and doughnuts and a hot lunch. Call 215–338–1052 for information and a registration form. ••
