Resurrection of Our Lord Elementary School alums last Friday presented an $18,000 check to the school.

The money will be used to upgrade and refurbish an early childhood and elementary education library on the second floor of the annex.

The funds came from a successful all-class reunion on Sept. 29 at the FOP Heroes Ballroom.

The ceremony took place on the front steps of the school, 2020 Shelmire Ave. in Rhawnhurst.

Katie (Curry) Gardler and Kathleen (Price) Hertkorn, graduates of the Class of 1984 and members of the reunion executive committee, had the honor of presenting the check to first-year principal Vanessa Rymer and the Rev. James DeGrassa, church pastor.

Rymer and DeGrassa attended the reunion, along with former students, faculty, parish priests, Sisters of St. Joseph and the Road Runner school mascot. A poignant moment of silence and tribute were held in memory of “Resso Angels,” alumni who have passed away.

Excited students who will use the library – in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, first and second grades – attended the check presentation ceremony and repeatedly chanted, “Library.” The library will feature books, computers and reading nooks.

More money could be on its way, as a 1984 grad is working to secure a grant from the company where she works. ••
