Groups in 10th Council District receive activities funds

City Councilman Brian O’Neill (R-10th dist.) recently distributed Philadelphia Activities Fund checks to 145 nonprofit groups in his district, totaling $272,000, during an event at American Heritage Federal Credit Union, 2060 Red Lion Road.

O’Neill chairs the fund’s board. Each Council district member is given money to distribute to worthy groups that apply for funding.

The maximum grant is $7,500.

The program is 25 years old, and O’Neill plans reforms. The board meets much more often than it did. And groups will be required to account for how they spend the money, or they won’t receive a grant in the future.

O’Neill plans another check distribution in the early fall.
