Lawncrest plans for July 4th
The Lawncrest Community Association last week welcomed Inspector Michael Cochrane, commander of the Northeast Police Division, and Carlton Williams, commissioner of the city Department of Licenses and Inspections. Officials from the 2nd Police District also attended the Feb. 19 meeting.
Meanwhile, the Lawncrest 4th of July Committee is planning this year’s celebration. Anyone interested in volunteering can call Steve Cartledge at 215-651-8470.
On Sunday, March 3, the Lawncrest Recreation Center Advisory Council will hold a planning meeting for a proposed community garden. The meeting is set for 2 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, at 6001 Colgate St. The discussion will center on plot layout, garden rules, membership and construction dates. The School District of Philadelphia is seeking donations for the upcoming prom season. The district is looking for stylish and clean dresses; slightly worn shoes; and small, dressy purses and handbags.
Donations can be dropped off by March 8 at 440 N. Broad St., Suite 210. Call 215-400-4200 with any questions. The Lawncrest Community Association will meet again on Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at St. William parish hall, at Argyle and Robbins streets. ••
