Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network and Holy Family University hosted the annual Empty Plate Dinner at St. Dominic’s Marian Hall in Upper Holmesburg last Saturday to benefit local homeless families.

PIHN provides temporary housing and assistance in finding permanent housing to those who have become homeless. Most are searching for employment or are employed but not earning enough income to cover the cost of market-rate rentals. PIHN helps these families endure difficult periods while remaining in the community and allowing their children to stay enrolled in local schools.

At the Empty Plate Dinner, attendees each select a unique hand-made dinner plate and fill it with food from a buffet prepared by dozens of local restaurants and eateries. At the end of the evening, attendees got to take home their empty plates as a keepsake and reminder of the less fortunate in the community. For information about PIHN, visit www.philashelter.org or the group’s Facebook and Twitter feeds. ••
