Holme Circle Civic catches up on Zoom

The Holme Circle Civic Association met via Zoom last week, starting off with a moment of silence for police officers, firefighters, first responders, the military and their families.

The group mourned the passing of Francis X. Murray, one of the cofounders of the Crispin Gardens Athletic Club, who died on Jan. 16.

The graffiti on the closed-down 7-Eleven at 2981 Welsh has been painted over, and a replacement business is “in the works.”

The civic association is also hoping the graffiti can be covered in Pennypack Park. One of the top issues the members will discuss with the 8th Police District is the rise in car break-ins.

Members are also hopeful that the slow pace of renovations at McArdle Playground will speed up.

Torresdale Library, 3079 Holme Ave., is open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Only two computers are available, with a time limit of 15 minutes. Patrons can browse for books, but the chairs have been removed and there is no programming. Staff are available weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 215-685-0494.

The nearby Thunderbird Lanes, 3075 Holme Ave., is also open.

State Rep. Ed Neilson’s office, at 16 Old Ashton Road, is open for drive-through service via the window. To make an appointment, call 215-330-3714.

The group is thanking the Acme market at 8200 Roosevelt Blvd. for supplying wreaths used in the neighborhood during the Christmas season.

The Holme Circle Civic Association is tentatively set to meet on Zoom on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. ••
