Weather device falls from sky, hits parked car

A device described by Philadelphia police as a weather instrument fell from the sky and onto a parked car in the Northeast on Saturday night, according to a Philly.com report.

The incident occurred on the 11600 block of Academy Road at about 9:30 p.m. Witnesses reportedly described the object as white and attached to a parachute. The car was unoccupied. The news agency did not report the size of the object.

Although the news agency reported that it remained unclear where the object originated and why it fell to the ground, weather watchers know that the National Weather Service operates a data collection station at the nearby Northeast Philadelphia Airport. ••
