The 57th Ward Republican and Democratic committees came together last week at Cannstatter’s for their bipartisan Donkeys & Elephants Holiday Charity Event.
Proceeds from the Dec. 6 event went to Northeast Victim Service, 8014 Castor Ave., and the Tom Raiker Scholarship Fund, named in memory of a 57th Ward, 21st Division Democratic committeeman who died suddenly in May.
The scholarship fund helps pay for tuition and books for high school and college students who are Northeast residents. Raiker was a graduate of North Catholic High School.
The event was organized by ward leaders Brian McCann, a Republican, and Pat Parkinson, a Democrat.
Among those in attendance were former Sheriff Barbara Deeley; state Reps. Ed Neilson and Kevin Boyle; Republican City Committee chairman Mike Meehan; former state House Speaker John Perzel; city election commissioners Lisa Deeley and Al Schmidt; City Councilman Al Taubenberger; Common Pleas Court Judge Dan McCaffery, who will be running for Superior Court next year; and Republican at-large Council candidates Irina Goldstein and Dan Tinney. ••
