Archbishop announces parish appointments in the Northeast

The appointments are effective June 18.

Archbishop Charles J. Chaput has announced a series of parish appointments, effective June 18. Below are the appointments affecting Northeast parishes.

The Rev. Thomas J. Furey, parochial vicar with the status of senior priest at St. Matthew, will retire. He will reside at Villa Saint Joseph, Darby.

New to St. Matthew will be the Rev. Brandon M. Artman, a parochial vicar who is newly ordained.

Another newly ordained priest, the Rev. Quy K. Pham, will become a parochial vicar at St. Albert the Great.

The Rev. Michael W. Rzonca, pastor at St. Jerome, will retire. He’ll reside at a private residence.

Rzonca will be replaced by the Rev. Michael J. Reilly, who is the pastor at St. Richard in South Philadelphia.

The Rev. Michael S. Olivere will become parochial administrator at St. Martin of Tours. He’ll remain pastor at St. Timothy.

Also at St. Martin’s, the Rev. Walter J. Benn, a parish assistant, will become parochial administrator at St. Lawrence in Riegelsville. Benn will also leave his post as parochial vicar with senior priest status at St. Mark in Bristol.

Coming to St. Martin’s as parochial vicar will be the Rev. Michael G. Mullan, who is now a parochial vicar at St. Agnes in West Chester.

Two St. Martin’s permanent deacons, Jose Hernandez and Stanley M. Zaleski, will be retiring.

The Rev. Mark J. Cavara will leave St. Anselm, where he is a parochial vicar, to join the faculty at Archbishop Carroll High School.

The Rev. Brian A. Izzo will leave St. Cecilia, where he is a parochial vicar, to assume the same role at St. Mary Magdalen in Media.

Chaput also made a local school-related appointment. The Rev. Edmund McCullough will join the faculty at St. Hubert High School, effective July 22, with residence at St. Patrick Parish in Rittenhouse Square. ••
