The St. Hubert community held a Dance-A-Rama fundraising event on Friday to benefit Our Lady of Confidence Day School, which serves students with intellectual disabilities.

The Dance-A-Rama is based off Penn State’s annual THON, which is a 46-hour dance marathon to benefit pediatric cancer initiatives. Students fundraise for the event throughout the year and accept donations during the event.

About 200 St. Hubert students participated in the Dance-A-Rama, which included dancing, limbo, Pie-A-Teacher, Facebook live streams and group choreography by mathematics teacher Mrs. Clifford

The Hubert girls danced until 10 p.m. Friday night and raised $12,785.50, however, they are still accepting donations. According to Student Council President Sarah McLaughlin, the total amount donated will be higher.

“Organizing this event was a very different, but positive experience for me,” McLaughlin said. “From the planning, decorations, sponsorships, fundraising, donations, etc. it’s a pretty hectic process. However, it is so worth it to see the smiles on every individual face while we dance, especially the students who join us from Our Lady of Confidence Day School”

Overall, McLaughlin said the event was a success and she is thankful to her community for making it possible.

“The contributions we received from the entire school community was incredible. Coming back from the hardships we all experienced through the pandemic, we weren’t truly sure how things were going to turn out. This really showed how much we can always count on our St. Hubert community,” she said.
