Hero Thrill Show fundraiser is this Saturday

It’s not too late to get tickets for the 59th annual Hero Thrill Show this Saturday, Sept. 21, outside of the Wells Fargo Center in South Philly.

The show features performances and demonstrations by the specialized units of the Philadelphia police and fire departments, including the elite Highway Patrol motorcycle Drill Team. All funds raised at the event will support scholarships for the children of police and firefighters killed and seriously injured in the line of duty.

College scholarship recipients in recent years have included members of the Marynowitz, Acey, Friel, Skerski, Cassidy, Liczbinski, Santiago, McDonald, Stackwicz, Simpson, Pawlowski, Lorenzo and Fox families. The Hero Thrill Show is not affiliated with the Hero Scholarship Fund.

Highly decorated former New York City police officer and detective Richard “Bo” Dietl will serve as grand marshal of the event, which will run from noon to 5 p.m. The show will also feature the police Strike Force Bicycle Stunt Team and Mounted Unit, along with fire engines and ladders. Mascots and cheerleaders from the city’s sports teams are also expected to offer family entertainment. Actor Chazz Palminteri of A Bronx Tale fame will make a special guest appearance.

The Wells Fargo Center is at 3601 S. Broad St. (Broad and Pattison). Tickets cost $10 individually or $25 for a family pack of five. They are available at all Philly police stations and fire houses, or by visiting www.comcasttix.com. The Hero Thrill Show site is www.HeroThrillShow.org. ••
