Deco on the Delaware will return for the fourth year to the grounds of the historic Glen Foerd on the Delaware estate on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The 1920s-inspired event, formerly called Jazz Age on the Delaware, brings fashion lovers and vintage enthusiasts together for a day of live music and dancing, lawn games and some friendly competition.

John A. Petty, founder of the Philly Seersucker Vintage Bike Ride & Social, will serve as master of ceremonies.

Although not required, 1920s to 1930s attire is strongly encouraged.

There will be a fashion contest and vendors with outfit complements and accessories. Prizes will be awarded to “Most Dapper Gent” and “Most Fashionable Flapper,” with one runner-up in each category.

“We are very excited to welcome Michael Arenella as the event’s producer,” said Meg Sharp Walton, executive director of Glen Foerd. “As founder of New York City’s famous Jazz Age Lawn Party, the original Prohibition-inspired festival, he brings a lot of expertise to the table. Michael is new to the Philly area, and fell in love with Glen Foerd when here for a visit. Eventually, he joined our Board of Directors because of his passion for Glen Foerd’s mission to foster creativity, innovation and an appreciation of the natural world.”

There will be three live jazz bands playing tunes for dancing on the Glen Foerd lawn. The acts will be Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra, Drew Nugent and The Midnight Society and Queen Esther and Her Quartet. The event will also feature dance performances by The Dreamland Follies and Fishtown Footers dance troupes.

A homemade pie-baking contest will take place. The categories are sweet, savory and most original. Guests can also bring your own meal to be enjoyed as a picnic on the lawn.

“For the re-christening of this special afternoon, Deco on the Delaware, we are taking the party closer to Glen Foerd’s truest source of inspiration: the Delaware River,” Arenella said. “This summer’s event is refocused upon the Tennis Lawn, originally a man-made pond, at the confluence of the Delaware River and Poquessing Creek. Here, attendees experience a cherished viewscape, which will be not so much backdrop, as nexus of romance and wonderment. Hot Jazz, cold cocktails and the finest Jazz Age entertainment in the world make Deco on the Delaware a ‘must’ on your social calendar this summer.”

Tickets begin at $45. Children under 12 are admitted free.
