A lone shooter’s single bullet wounded two motorists in the arm during a failed robbery attempt in the Lower Northeast on June 12, police say.

The gunfire erupted on Whitaker Avenue just south of Roosevelt Boulevard at about 11 p.m. Police arrived at the scene and found one wounded man about a block away on the 5200 block of Pennway Street. He was taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment of a non-critical arm wound. A second man later turned up at Albert Einstein Medical Center, also with a non-critical arm wound.

Police did not release their identities, but both are in their late teens or early 20s.

The victims told police they were sitting in a 2012 Dodge Dart with a third man on the 5200 block of Whitaker Avenue when someone approached the car with a gun and a knife, demanding money. They refused. During the confrontation, the assailant allegedly fired once into the car, striking two of the occupants.

Police did not say if the gunman fled or the victims took off in the car.

One of the victims allegedly recognized the robber, prompting police to question the suspect. But there have been no arrests. ••
