Auditor General Eugene DePasquale and state Sen. Tina Tartaglione (D-2nd dist.) recently visited the Chapel Manor nursing home and rehabilitation center at 1104 Welsh Road. The tour was designed to meet residents and obtain a first-hand look at nursing homes as DePasquale completes an audit of how the state Department of Health handles nursing home complaints.

“The care and protection of our most vulnerable citizens must be job one for state government. It is essential that the Department of Health have systems in place to respond promptly and compassionately to complaints raised by nursing home residents, families or friends,” DePasquale said.

“During the audit, we will conduct a full review of how the Department of Health currently handles nursing home complaints and we will make recommendations for improvement where necessary. I thank Secretary of Health Karen Murphy for reaching out to us for assistance in this important matter. We will immediately begin preparations for the audit.”

DePasquale previously visited nursing homes in Berks and Erie counties. His report is expected this summer.

“We want to make sure patients get the best care they can,” Tartaglione said. ••
