Eleanor Smylie Community Fund helps those in need

The Times kicked off its 69th annual Eleanor Smylie Community Fund, helping thousands of local families during the Christmas season.

Now that Thanksgiving is over, the Christmas shopping season is in full gear.

The Times recently kicked off its 69th annual Eleanor Smylie Community Fund, which has helped thousands of local families during the Christmas season over the years.

And, already, local people are telling us they need help this time of year.

A Morrell Park man is battling cancer, while a Rhawnhurst man is suffering kidney failure. A woman is struggling to raise her three grandsons in Holmesburg, an elderly Modena Park widow is raising her 11-year-old grandson and a Far Northeast mother of two is still trying to overcome the death of her husband two years ago.

In years past, our readers have generously contributed to the fund. All money collected is used to buy gift cards to provide holiday dinners and children’s gifts to those who are struggling to make ends meet.

We’ll publish your name in a list of donors. If you prefer to donate anonymously, we will honor that request.

If you would like to request help, or if you know of someone who could use assistance during the holidays, please take a few minutes to write a letter. The address is:

Eleanor Smylie Community Fund

2 Executive Campus

Suite 400

Cherry Hill, NJ 08002

Include a name and contact information for an agency or person for verification. Requests can also be sent to news@northeasttimes.com

Everything about the process will remain anonymous.

If you are able to donate, please send a check to the Eleanor Smylie Community Fund at the address above. Any amount will help.

Thank you for your consideration. ••

Below is a list of some of our early donors.

• James Albert $20
