Meanwhile, the Judge hockey team presented four boxes filled with toys to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program during the Dec. 4 event. The toys were collected at games. Some representatives of schools receiving scholarship money also donated toys.

Marine Reserve Staff Sgt. Daniel Matthews accepted the toys. Matthews presented the Marine Reserve Commander’s Award to Judge for its efforts.

As for the scholarships, businesses contributed money to the Harrisburg-based Bridge through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit programs.

The nonprofit Bridge provides the money to schools, which use the funds to assist needy families with tuition. The scholarship fund has donated about $1.5 million to schools in the Northeast since 2005.

The following businesses directed money for the scholarships: CSX Transportation, Enterprise Holdings, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, Waste Management, Aegis Security Insurance, Penn Jersey Paper and RBC Capital Markets.

“We wouldn’t be here without the donors,” said Dennis Giorno, a 1990 Judge graduate and member of the Bridge Educational Foundation board.

Among those in attendance were state Reps. John Taylor and Kevin Boyle and state Rep.-elect Mike Driscoll.

The schools that benefited from a portion of the $118,000 included Archbishop Ryan, Christ the King, CORA Services Early Years Preschool, Father Judge, Holmesburg Baptist Christian School, Little Flower, Maternity BVM, Nazareth Academy Grade School, Nazareth Academy High School, Politz Hebrew Academy, Resurrection Regional Catholic School, St. Anselm, St. Cecilia, St. Christopher, St. Dominic, St. Hubert, St. Katherine of Siena, St. Martha and St. Martin of Tours.
