More than 1,700 freshmen joined the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute community, including Andrew Johnston and Joseph Pisacano. RPI is in Troy, New York.

Students in Philadelphia College of Pharmacy at University of the Sciences received their white coats at a ceremony. The white coat ceremony is an annual rite of passage for students in their first professional year (third year) of USciences’ six-year pharmacy program, and symbolizes their dedication to the profession of pharmacy and to the care of others.

Student recipients included Alicia Alex, Mei Ling Rong and Merlin Thomas.

Donning their white coats, the more than 130 student pharmacists recited the Oath of a Pharmacist, a gesture to reinforce their commitment to working with patients compassionately and to enhancing their health and well-being. Students now continue on a path to receiving a doctor of pharmacy degree in May 2020.

Bashar Hanna, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Delaware Valley University, announced that Eireann Anastasi earned a degree (MBA, Business Administration) from Delaware Valley University.

Local students have been elected officers of Colby-Sawyer College’s 2016–17 Student Government Association. A total of 15 student officers and senators comprise the Colby-Sawyer College SGA. Kevin Richardson serves as president. He is majoring in business administration and is a member of the Class of 2018. Ai Sy serves as treasurer. Sy is majoring in nursing and is a member of the Class of 2017. Colby-Sawyer is in New Hampshire.

HaoJun Zhen has been accepted to Susquehanna University’s Honors Program. Discussion groups, lectures, off-campus visits and residential programs are all part of the Honors Program experience. Students are chosen for their natural curiosity, passion for learning, high energy, leadership and academic standing in high school. About 10 percent of each entering class is invited to join the Honors Program. To remain in the program, students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.4. Zhen is a pre-professional and chemistry major in the Class of 2020. A 2016 graduate of Central High School, she is the daughter of Chao H. Zhen and Jie Y. Mei.

Jeffy Mathew, a doctor of physical therapy student at University of the Sciences, received a white coat at the 12th Annual Physical Therapy White Coat Ceremony. The White Coat Ceremony is an annual rite of passage for fourth-year students in USciences’ six-year PT program. Mathew continues on the path to receiving a doctor of physical therapy degree in May 2019. Donning their white coats, the more than 75 student-physical therapists recited the Oath of a Physical Therapist, a gesture to reinforce their commitment to working with patients compassionately and to enhancing their health and well-being.

Eastern Connecticut State University recently released its list of newly enrolled students for the fall 2016 semester. Among the new students is Santiago Vallejo, whose major is Communication.

Chris Dorsey, director of admissions, notes that incoming students come from 158 of Connecticut’s towns, from 24 other states and from 23 other countries.

Joseph Pisacano is a member of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute cross country team. Pisacano is an Aeronautical Engineering major. John Lynch is the coach at RPI, located in Troy, New York. ••
