Mural Arts is working on a new mural that will be painted on an exterior wall of the Lawncrest Free Library Branch. The image will feature Craig in full firefighting gear, as well as her Engine 64 fire truck and depictions of her two children.

Craig died in the line of duty on Dec. 9, 2014. She left behind a son Mekhi, 18, and daughter Laylani, 3.

At Saturday’s Mural Paint Day, visitors to the rec center were invited to help paint the mural’s panels while learning about fire prevention and safety. October is National Fire Prevention Month. It’s also Mural Arts Month in Philadelphia.

Authorities have not announced a completion date for the Joyce Craig mural. ••
