Officers of the Month: Frederick Clough and Timothy Taylor received a plaque for their honor.
Police Officers Frederick Clough and Timothy Taylor have been named Officers of the Month in the 7th district for arresting a burglar in Bell’s Corner on Sept. 1.
At about 6:48 that evening, Clough and Taylor were called to the 8500 block of Bustleton Ave. when someone called 911 about a burglary in progress. A man told the officers that he was inside his apartment on the block when an unknown man broke into the residence, grabbed a baby stroller and fled.
Neighbors further informed the officers that they saw the suspect walking back toward the apartment building. Clough and Taylor identified and detained the suspect. Police then went to the suspect’s own apartment on the 1800 block of Evarts St. and found the victim’s baby stroller there.
The suspect was charged with burglary, trespassing and theft.
Previously, the 7th district named Officers Eyvette Chandler and Gregory Segaline as Officers of the Month for August. Officers Cathy Lint and Les Charlton won the award for July.
On Aug. 27, a routine domestic disturbance turned into a narcotics investigation for Chandler and Segaline. The officers were called to the 2000 block of Fuller St. in Rhawnhurst at about 7:42 a.m. and encountered two brothers who were arguing.
One brother informed the officers that he had a restraining order against the other brother. When the officers questioned the second brother, he told them that the first brother was growing marijuana in his yard.
Sure enough, Chandler and Segaline found pot plants growing in the yard. Narcotics investigators later seized 15 plants, $940 cash and drug packaging materials from the home. They arrested the first brother who was living there.
On July 7, Charlton and Lint teamed to arrest a suspected mugger. The crime happened in the street at Red Lion and Verree roads. The male victim told Charlton that three unknown men had beaten and robbed him before fleeing in a silver Ford pickup truck.
Charlton broadcast the description on police radio. A short time later, Lint spotted the truck at Verree and Susquehanna roads in Fox Chase. There was one man inside the vehicle. When Charlton brought the victim to Lint’s location, the victim identified the suspected motorist as one of the robbers.
The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy, theft and related offenses. ••
