2nd District honors Officer of the Month

Philadelphia Police Officer Padraic Feeney has been selected as Officer of the Month in the 2nd district after his recent arrest of a shooting suspect near a Crescentville nightclub.

On Sept. 26 at about 2 a.m., Feeney responded to the 700 block of Adams Ave. after someone reported seeing a person with a gun. Feeney arrived to find a large crowd of people outside a nightclub. Some of the people were fighting.

As Feeney exited his patrol car, he saw a man fire a gun amid the crowd, although nobody was injured.

When the gunman fled on foot, Feeney chased him a short distance and captured him. Feeney directed another officer to search for a gun that the suspect had discarded as he ran.

The other officer found a Smith and Wesson M&P 40 Shield pistol underneath a nearby car.

The gun was loaded with four live rounds.

The suspect did not have a permit to carry a concealed firearm.

Police also recovered two spent shell casings at the scene of the shooting as well as surveillance video of the incident.

They later determined that the gun had been reported stolen.

The alleged shooter was charged with weapons violations, possessing an instrument of crime and reckless endangerment.

Feeney will be presented with the Officer of the Month Award on Dec. 13 during the next meeting of the 2nd Police District Advisory Council. ••
