Speed major factor in fatal car crash

High speed and a bump in the road contributed to a fiery two-car crash that claimed the life of a 21-year-old man and injured two other people early Saturday in Bustleton, police say.

At about 2 a.m., a 2000 Acura and a 2003 Infiniti were traveling westbound on the 1600 block of Grant Ave. when, according to a witness, they crossed Bustleton Avenue, where a rise launched both vehicles into the air. When they landed, the cars collided. The Acura careened into a utility police and burst into flames.

A 21-year-old man burned to death inside the Acura. Police did not identify him by name.

A 30-year-old man was behind the wheel of the Infiniti with a 22-year-old woman passenger. Both were taken to Aria-Jefferson Health’s Torresdale campus in stable condition with unspecified injuries.

The crash also knocked down utility wires and caused a power outage. ••
