Speaker series continues on Nov. 10
Dr. Domenic Vitiello will be the presenter during the next installment of the Holy Family University and Glen Foerd Speaker Series on Nov. 10, when he will discuss Philadelphia’s rise and fall as an industrial metropolis through the perspective of the Sellers family businesses.
Philadelphia: The Industrial Metropolis will be held at Holy Family’s ETC Auditorium, 9801 Frankford Ave., at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
When Philadelphia was the Workshop of the World, the Sellers family numbered among the city’s leading industrial families. They build canals and railroads and manufactured goods ranging from textiles to steel frames for bridges and skyscrapers. But in the 20th century, as the city de-industrialized, the Sellers firms also declined.
Vitiello is an urban historian at the University of Pennsylvania and the author of Engineering Philadelphia: The Sellers Family and the Industrial Metropolis. ••
NE mental health agency to host opening
The Center for Families and Relationships, 7901 Bustleton Ave., is a nonprofit community mental health agency practicing in the Northeast. CFAR is hosting a grand opening to thank its board of directors, community leaders, members and clients for their support.

Walk seeks to end Alzheimer’s
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Citizens Bank Park.
Check-in starts at 9 a.m., the Promise Garden Ceremony is at 10:45 a.m., and the walk kicks off at 11 a.m. Proceeds will benefit Alzheimer’s research, and the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter care and support programs and services it offers to the estimated 294,000 people in the region who are affected by Alzheimer’s or a related disorder.
Individuals are invited to form a team or join one, or volunteer on the day of the walk.

All 2,000 available CSFP scholarships will be awarded through a random lottery, are need-based, and can be provided to a family as a whole for up to three children.
