Darragh elected president of Parkwood Civic Association

The Nov. 8 general election didn’t work out too well for state House hopeful Matt Darragh, but he fared a lot better eight days later when his Parkwood neighbors elected a new president of their civic group.

Darragh won the uncontested vote during the Parkwood Civic Association’s monthly membership meeting. He will succeed Marge Philippi, who announced in October that she hoped to give up the job. Darragh’s term will be two years. Other newly elected board members include Barbara Parker, Secretary, and Rich Ortlip, Treasurer.

“At the last meeting before the election, Marge mentioned that her term was up and she was looking for someone else interested in doing it,” he said. “I thought this was a great way to stay involved in the community.”

Darragh is a liquor store examiner for the Pennsylvania auditor general’s office who challenged but lost to incumbent state Rep. Martina White in the race for the 170th district seat in the state House of Representatives. Darragh was the Democrat nominee. White is a Republican. Darragh said he is disappointed with the outcome of the election but glad to get back to his “regular routine” after an arduous campaign.

“My goal is to make (Parkwood civic) a little more robust and to build up the membership,” he said.

John DelRicci was re-elected as vice president of the civic group, while Lou Farinella was re-elected as zoning chairman.

The civic group meets publicly on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at St. Anselm Church. The next session will be on Dec. 21. ••
