Investigators have nicknamed the unidentified hold-up man as the “Straw Hat Bandit.” He is responsible for at least 11 bank robberies in Montgomery and Bucks counties from June 2012 through last July. He has targeted bank branches in Horsham, Wrightstown, Yardley, Ambler (twice), Royersford, Schwenksville, Blue Bell, Plymouth Meeting, Dresher and North Wales.

The robber has used a black semiautomatic handgun and issued verbal demands to tellers in many of the cases. Authorities believe he has used a white Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup truck to facilitate his crimes. The truck has a model year between 1998 and 2007 and a cap covering the bed. He also may have used a teal BMW sedan or dark-colored Volvo sedan.

Investigators dubbed him the Straw Hat Bandit because he wore a large straw hat during one of the robberies. Alternately, he has worn a dark bucket hat and a black baseball cap with the “TaylorMade” golf brand name and logo printed in white across the front.

He has also worn a variety of clothing including a shirt, tie and suit coat; hooded sweatshirts; and lightweight jackets. He has been described as a white man in his 40s or older, about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 200 pounds or more. He has used a mask, pillowcase and bandana to conceal his face.
