Three masked men invaded the Somerton home of a couple and their adult son in an apparent case of mistaken identity early last Friday.
The armed bandits took about $40 during the robbery, but were probably looking for a lot more as they roused the victims, ages 63, 62 and 37, from their sleep, police said. At one point, one of the crooks commented to his cohorts that they may have broken into the wrong house.
It happened on the 14000 block of Faraday St. at about 1:13 a.m. The victims told police that one of the robbers woke the elder couple in their bedroom at gunpoint and demanded to know where to find their money. Another robber woke the son in a separate bedroom and forced him to his parents’ room, where the crooks made him lie on the floor.
The invaders bound the victims’ hands with plastic zip ties and fled the house. Police determined that the crooks had pried open basement patio doors to access the house.
The lead crook was described as Hispanic, in his early 20s, 6 feet 2 inches tall and thin, weighing about 180 pounds. He had a tan bandanna covering his face. The other two suspects wore dark clothes. All three wore masks and gloves. ••
