Philadelphia police announced the capture of the third suspect on Monday. He was identified as Edwin Burgos, 23, of the 600 block of W. Huntingdon St. in West Kensington. In addition, Roger Millington, 19, who is homeless, surrendered to police on May 4. A juvenile who allegedly took part in the melee was arrested last Thursday. His age and identity have not been released publicly.

The fracas, at about 3:30 p.m. on a Monday, started when two of the suspects allegedly assaulted a Northeast High student on the 1900 block of Cottman Ave. shortly after dismissal. The corner where the initial altercation occurred, Cottman and Castor avenues, is actually closer to Woodrow Wilson Middle School, about one block away, compared to about three blocks from Northeast.

Two school police officers were monitoring student dismissals in the busy traffic corridor and intervened into the disturbance, Philadelphia police said. The officers began to argue with the suspects, one of whom pushed the officers physically. When one of the officers defended himself, one of the suspects threw him to the ground while a second suspect punched the other officer. Ultimately, the third suspect joined the fray as the three suspects allegedly pummeled both school police. One officer reportedly suffered a broken jaw and the other ankle bruises.

When Philadelphia police arrived, the three suspects ran eastbound on Cottman.

Authorities did not disclose the circumstances of the arrests, stating only that Millington surrendered after the news media broadcast and posted surveillance video of the altercation publicly. All three suspects were charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault, conspiracy and related offenses. Police did not disclose what may have prompted the initial altercation. ••
