As part of its Inquiry 2016 activities, Lebanon Valley College recognized students for academic achievement in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. Local students include Jessica Coughlin, a graduate of Philadelphia Academy Charter School who is pursuing a bachelor of arts in English and sociology, who won the Senior Award for Academic Excellence in Sociology; and Ryan Muldoon, a graduate of Father Judge High School who is pursuing a bachelor of science in accounting, who won the Achievement Scholarship Award in Business Administration.

Three local students at St. Joseph’s University are members of the Summer Scholars Program. The following students will engage in faculty-mentored research and creative projects at the university this summer: Irina Grinberg, Sara Leonetti and Krista Rossi.

Three local students were inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society at University of the Sciences. Invitations to join ALD, a national honor society for first-year students, are based on attaining a first-semester academic average of at least 3.50 and ranking in the top 20 percent of the class. This year’s inductees all attained a first-semester academic average above a 3.580. They are Jenny James, Jenna Januszka and Zixuan Yang, all doctor of pharmacy students.

Najee Parker is among 36 students Lebanon Valley College is recognizing for contributions to the success of the VALE Conference and VALE Records. Parker is a graduate of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts and is pursuing a bachelor of arts in music business.

St. Joseph’s University students Daniel Buhalo, a biology major, and Kathleen MacFeeters, a history and political science major, were inducted into the national liberal arts and sciences honor society, Phi Beta Kappa.

Amber Kates was among 38 graduating seniors who attended the Women’s Career Achievement Dinner to celebrate the accomplishments of women at Rochester Institute of Technology. She and the others received Legacy Leader Awards.

Justin LaCorte was among over 130 graduate and undergraduate students from St. Joseph’s University’s Haub School of Business who were inducted into the national business honor society, Beta Gamma Sigma. Beta Gamma Sigma’s mission is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and personal and professional excellence in the practice of the business.

John Wright performed in the role of Butcher for the Alvernia University Theatre presentation of A Streetcar Named Desire. Wright is studying mathematics and forensic psychology. He was part of an on-stage cast of 13 actors who gave five performances over the course of one week.

The following local residents recently were initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines: Kim Scott, initiated at Widener University, and Jacqueline Whitman, initiated at Bloomsburg University. They are among about 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.

The following local Widener University students were inducted into Phi Eta Sigma: Eden Fernandes, Oriol Parllaku and Kiersten Silvestri. Phi Eta Sigma is a freshman honor society. Any first-year student with a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale at the end of a full curricular period is eligible for membership. ••
