Designer Bag Bingo at Franklin Towne

Franklin Towne Charter High School Best Buddies will be holding a Designer Bag Bingo fundraiser on Friday, April 1, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Polonia Hall, 4431 Belgrade St.

Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Tickets cost $40. Full tables of 10 can be reserved for $350. Admission includes a free dinner buffet, an open bar of beer and wine and bingo sheets.

Event will help fight against colon cancer

The Philadelphia region’s largest event to fight colon cancer, Get Your Rear in Gear, will present a four-mile run, two-mile Remembrance Walk and Kids Fun Run on Sunday, April 3, at Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park.

More than 4,000 participants are expected to take part in the activities, many of whom have been impacted by colon cancer, disease that kills 49,000 Americans and affects more than 135,000 every year.

Fundraiser for pancreatic cancer patient

Family and friends of Joe Mezei will hold a benefit for him on Saturday, April 2, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Danube Swabian Club, 1277 Southampton Road.

Mezei, who for many years lived on Trevose Road in Somerton, is battling pancreatic cancer. His wife, Marianne, is at his side, but they are facing financial hardships.

Tickets cost $25 and include beer, wine, food, a DJ and raffles. For more information, call 215–280–2873. ••

St. Martha celebrating 50th anniversary

St. Martha Parish will be celebrating its 50th jubilee in 2016 with the following special liturgical and social events: April 2, auction; April 10, communion breakfast and Hall of Fame induction of new class; April 17, anointing of sick liturgy; June 5, closing liturgy, with Archbishop Charles Chaput as celebrant, followed by celebration at The Philadelphia Ballroom. ••

Dance company to perform benefit show

The Elysian Dance Company will hold their Scholarship Performance to benefit the Elizabeth Ann Pulaski Memorial Scholarship Fund on Thursday, April 7 at 7 p.m. at St. Hubert High School Auditorium, 7320 Torresdale Ave.

Tickets in advance cost $12 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Tickets are also available at the door for $15 and $10.

This scholarship benefits St. Hubert High School and University of the Arts.

Concert at the Devon

The historic Devon theater in Mayfair will be full of music and singing on Friday, April 22, at 7 p.m. when the Multicultural Arts Exchange will bring a very special artist. Fred Thomas has been James Brown’s bassist since 1971. He will tear into a mix of James Brown hits, blues and soul classics as vocalist and bassist for his Fred Thomas Band.

Calling all performers

Talent is needed for CORA Services’ annual Family Festival, which will be held on Saturday, April 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 8540 Verree Road. (Rain date April 30.)

CORA is seeking students to perform in the talent showcase, including dance groups, ensembles or music groups, cheerleading squads and other types of entertainers. Musical at Walnut

Walnut Street Theatre for Kids’ presents Freckleface Strawberry, The Musical. Annual rummage sale planned in Frankford

Frankford Friends School, 1500 Orthodox St., will hold its annual rummage and bake sale on Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Win designer bags, other goodies at bingo

Louis H. Farrell School is sponsoring a bingo night at the Cottage Green, 9001 Ashton Road, on April 14.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Bingo begins promptly at 6:30.

Winners will receive designer bags and other prizes. There will also be raffles.

The cost is $40, which includes dinner. A cash bar will be available.

John Birch Society meeting set for Tuesday

The John Birch Society will meet on Tuesday, April 5, at 7 p.m. at Holmesburg Recreation Center, at Rhawn and Ditman streets.

There will be a DVD presentation by journalist and author James Perloff, who will discuss the Council on Foreign Relations.

Refreshments will be provided.

The motto of the John Birch Society is “Less Government, More Responsibility and — With God’s Help — A Better World.”

Take home crafts at Delaire for a good cause

A gift, craft and home show will take place on Saturday, April 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Delaire Landing recreation center, 9355 State Road.

Proceeds benefit the March of Dimes and Gianna’s Gang.

Sabatina to hold forums at KleinLife

State Sen. John Sabatina Jr. (D-5th dist.) will conduct two informational forums for area residents at KleinLife, 10100 Jamison Ave.

The sessions are set for Thursday, April 7, and Tuesday, April 12, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. They are free and open to the public by appointments only.

Information will be available about 2015 property tax and rent rebate, PACE, medical assistance, SNAP, reduced senior registration, handicapped placards, PennDOT issues, birth and death certificates, unclaimed property applications, low-income senior real estate tax freeze, free notary services, assistance with power of attorney and veterans’ services, among others.

Widow to hold healing session in Richboro

Donna Glatz, widow of slain Lawncrest jeweler William Glatz, will hold Heal Your Heart From Loss at the Free Library of Northampton Township, 25 Upper Holland Road in Richboro, on Wednesday, April 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Glatz will share the story of her husband’s murder.

William Glatz was shot to death in 2010 during a robbery attempt inside his jewelry store at 6435 Rising Sun Ave.

Obina Onyiah was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Kevin Turner, who had escaped from Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility nine days earlier, died in a shootout with Glatz.

The Glatz family had owned the store for more than 60 years.

Another session will take place on April 20.
