Bird walk, guided park tour is Saturday
Nature lovers in Northeast Philadelphia will have two public events to enjoy on Sunday, March 20. At 8:30 a.m., the Friends of Poquessing Watershed will host its monthly bird walk at Benjamin Rush State Park. The entrance is on Southampton Road just east of Roosevelt Boulevard.
Then at 1 p.m., the Friends of Pennypack Park will host a guided park walk with Roland Williams, starting at Frankford Avenue and Ashburner Street. Participants will meet at the bike path entrance on Frankford. The topic will be “Holmesburg history and geology at the tide line.” ••
Registration open for city planning program
The City Planning Commission is accepting registrations for the Spring 2016 Citizens Planning Institute.
CPI is a six-week course that empowers citizens to take a more active and effective role in shaping the future of their neighborhoods and Philadelphia through a greater understanding of city planning and the steps involved in development projects.

Two Northeast Philly women to be honored
Women for Greater Philadelphia, founded in 1976, will celebrate Women’s History Month by honoring the founding members who are still active.
The event will take place on Sunday, March 20, at 2 p.m., at Laurel Hill Mansion, 7201 East Edgley Drive, East Fairmount Park (enter park at 33rd and Dauphin streets). There is no charge to attend. The moderator is Lauren Lipton, KYW Newsradio.
Among those being honored are Northeast residents Gertrude Brown and Ruth K. Horwitz.

Cannstatter’s, 9130 Academy Road, will host a beef and beer to benefit the Special Forces Association on Friday, March 18, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
There will be auction items and raffles and live music by Bria Marie and Band of Rivals. The DJ will be T. Morgan, of WMGK. The special guests will be retired U.S. Army Special Forces members Dan Quinn, Nick Freitas and Nick Panarella.

Charlie Brown show coming to Father Judge
The Father Judge Theater Arts Department will present four upcoming productions of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

Annie Junior hits the stage at MaST

Cleanup at Calvary A.A. to be held March 19
Calvary Athletic Association, at 4330 Deerpath Lane, will hold its annual field cleanup on Saturday, March 19, beginning at 9 a.m.
The cleanup, including areas surrounding the fields, is in preparation for the upcoming baseball, softball and lacrosse seasons.

Widow to hold healing session
Donna Glatz, widow of slain Lawncrest jeweler William Glatz, will hold Heal Your Heart From Loss at the Free Library of Northampton Township, 25 Upper Holland Road in Richboro, on Wednesday, April 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Glatz will share the story of her husband’s murder.
William Glatz was shot to death in 2010 during a robbery attempt inside his jewelry store at 6435 Rising Sun Ave. Obina Onyiah was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Kevin Turner, who had escaped from Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility nine days earlier, died in a shootout with Glatz.
The Glatz family had owned the store for more than 60 years.
Another session will take place on April 20.

Presentation honors geography bee winners
Presentation BVM recently hosted its annual National Geographic Bee.
Classes from fourth through eighth grades conducted classroom geography bees.
Seventh-graders James Griffin and James Hynds advanced to the championship round, which was won by James Hynds, who will take the National Geographic online test.
National Geographic offers a $50,000 scholarship and a trip to the winners. ••
