Movies in the park

The Delaware River City Corporation will sponsor four outdoor movies on selected Thursday nights this summer at Pennypack on the Delaware park, at State Road and Rhawn Street.

On July 7, Blended will play from 8 to 10 p.m.

On July 21, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will play from 7:45 to 10 p.m.

On Aug. 4, Inside Out will play from 8 to 9:35 p.m.

On Aug. 18, Zootopia will play from 8 to 9:45 p.m.

The evenings will include complimentary refreshments. ••

Summer program at St. Hubert

St. Hubert High School, 7320 Torresdale Ave., will be hosting the Summer at St. Hubert program the week of July 11–15.

The program includes week-long camps in Robotics, Digital Art and Graphics Design, Performing Arts, Sewing and Clothing Construction and Art Media and Methods.

Each camp is Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and is open to girls entering sixth through ninth grades.

Camps will be directed by St. Hubert faculty and staff, who run these programs full time during the school year with current St. Hubert students.

To register, visiting www.huberts.org/SASH and submit the registration form with payment. Cost for all programs is $100 per participant.

A registration form can also be completed at the school weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Art show at WEL Pennypack

An art show will take place on Saturday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wesley Enhanced Living Pennypack Park, 8401 Roosevelt Blvd.

Thrift store at St. Luke’s

The Memorial Church of St. Luke’s, 1946 Welsh Road, operates a thrift store in its parish hall on Sundays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The store sells clothing, household items and other goods.

“It’s not just about selling some clothes or a trinket at a good price,” said Colleen Szczur, who helps operate the store. “It’s about giving back and helping out our neighbors. It’s about meeting new people and making new friends. It’s about making a difference.” ••

Day camp at Vogt

Vogt Recreation Center, 6700 Cottage St. in Tacony, will host a day camp from July 5 to Aug. 12.

Camp hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $80 a week. Extended care is available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The camp includes three trips a week, lunch and swim lessons.

Greyhound coming to Library

A retired racing greyhound will visit Holmesburg Library, 7810 Frankford Ave., on Monday, July 11, at 6 p.m.

The program will be presented by Teresa Glover, of Citizens Against Greyhound Racing.

Blessing of the Bikes event at St. Martha’s

St. Martha Church, 11301 Academy Road, is holding a Blessing of the Bikes on June 26 at 1 p.m. in the church parking lot. Anyone who rides a motorcycle is welcome to attend and have his or her bikes blessed for a safe riding season.

The event is being sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, Mary Queen of Angels council based out of St. Martha Parish. ••

Grief support group holding meetings

Donna Glatz, widow of slain Lawncrest jeweler William Glatz, will hold Heal Your Heart From Loss at the Free Library of Northampton Township, 25 Upper Holland Road in Richboro, on June 29, July 13 and Aug. 4.

Another meeting will take place on July 27 at the James E. Kinney Senior Center, 165 Township Road in Richboro.

All sessions run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Glatz will share the story of her husband’s murder.

William Glatz was shot to death in 2010 during a robbery attempt inside his jewelry store at 6435 Rising Sun Ave. Obina Onyiah was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Kevin Turner, who had escaped from Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility nine days earlier, died in a shootout with Glatz. The Glatz family had owned the store for more than 60 years.

NE Chamber event planned at Navy Depot

The Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce will hold Breakfast with the Naval Brass on Wednesday, June 29, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Naval Support Activity Philadelphia, 700 Robbins Ave. The cost is $25.

Poets performing works at Burholme shop

Diane Sahms-Guarnieri of Lawndale and G. Emil Reutter of Fox Chase will bring their 2016 poetry tour home to Burholme on June 22 at 7 p.m. at Chase’s Hop Shop.

The reading is free and open to the public, although seating will be limited. An open mic will follow readings by Sahms-Guarnieri and Reutter.

ldquo;We haven’t read in the neighborhood since 2015 and are delighted to read at Chase’s Hop Shop in support of this business, which has become a hub of activity for the Burholme and Lawndale communities,” said Sahms-Guarnieri.

Copies of Night Sweat by Sahms-Guarnieri and From the Valley by Reutter will be available for purchase.

Nursing Designer Bag Bingo at St. Martha

The Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter of the American Association for Critical Care Nursing will hold a Nursing Designer Bag Bingo on Sunday, June 26, from 2 to 6 p.m. at St. Martha School, 11321 Academy Road.

The cost is $25.

Ferko String Band to perform Thursday

Ferko String Band will perform on Thursday, June 23, at 7:15 p.m. at the Philadelphia Protestant Home social hall, 6500 Tabor Road.

ESL classes available at NE Learning Center

The Northeast Learning Center, 1928 Cottman Ave., is accepting applications for its English as a Second Language (ESL) class that will resume on June 22. Evening classes will be two hours twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m.

This is a beginner’s class for people from all countries and languages. The cost for the course is a registration and book fee of $30. Classes will be $75 a month for up to three months.
