Woman struck by motorcycle, injured

A woman pedestrian was critically injured when a motorcycle ran a red light on Roosevelt Boulevard and struck her early last Friday, police say.

It happened at about 3:30 a.m. at Roosevelt Boulevard and Devereaux Avenue. According to investigators, the 25-year-old victim was in the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection spanning the northbound lanes when a 2006 Honda CBR operated by a 27-year-old in the left lane of the outer drive entered the intersection against the red light and struck the woman.

The impact caused the rider to fall from the motorcycle, which careened into a westbound 2013 Toyota Camry driven by another 27-year-old man. Witnesses including the Camry driver corroborated that the motorcyclist disregarded the traffic signal.

Paramedics took the woman to Aria-Jefferson Health at Torresdale, where she was admitted in critical condition with internal abdominal injuries. Paramedics also took the motorcyclist to the same hospital for treatment of scrapes and pain. The Camry driver was not injured.

Police had not disclosed criminal charges as of Monday afternoon. ••
