Public forum addressing digital inclusion to be held next week

City Councilman Bobby Henon invites the community to attend a public forum addressing “digital inclusion” and featuring Federal Communications Commissioner Mignon Clyburn on Tuesday, July 26, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the offices of PhillyCAM, Philadelphia’s nonprofit community access television provider.

Statistics show that Philadelphia is the poorest big city in the country. Like many cities with high concentrations of poverty, Philadelphia struggles with broadband internet access for thousands of low-income people. That lack of service is an obstacle to their employment, education and healthcare.

At the Getting Online: Why We Need Digital Inclusion forum, Clyburn will appear with Henon, City Councilwoman Helen Gym, Philadelphia Chief Administrative Officer Rebecca Rhynhart, Free Library President Siobhan Reardon and others to discuss these issues. Juliana Reyes of Technically Philly will moderate.

The event is a partnership between the FCC and the Media Mobilizing Project, a nonprofit that works to build a community media infrastructure to help combat poverty. Space is limited, so pre-registration is requested. To register, visit the event page on Eventbrite via http://phlclyburn.eventbrite.com
