Philadelphia police found a 21-year-old man who had been wounded by gunfire in a portion of Pennypack Park near Austin Meehan Middle School on July 5, but investigators have released little information about the incident since it happened.

Officers from the 15th and 8th districts responded to a report of a “male shot on the highway” at about 12:15 p.m. Initially, the department stated that officers went to the 7400 block of Rowland Ave. in front of Lincoln High School. Later, the department changed the location to the 7700 block of Lexington Ave., about a half-mile away.

Authorities did not release the name of the victim, who was taken by paramedics to Aria-Jefferson’s Torresdale hospital in stable condition with a stomach wound. Police did not disclose a suspected motive for the shooting. The gunman was described as a black man, about 25 years old, with short hair and a red shirt.

Bird’s-eye photos of the scene posted by 6ABC.com showed numerous marked police cars and fire department vehicles parked on Ryan Avenue just north of Sandyford Avenue, as well as on a paved entrance to the park nearby. ••
