Driver hit her pet and left

On Feb. 2 — one day after my 3-year-old fur baby’s birthday — we were crossing Knights Road at the intersection of Knights Road and Patrician Drive. It was approximately 6 a.m. A red truck (on Patrician) ran the red light at Patrician turning left onto Knights Road and hit my dog as we were crossing Knights Road barely missing me by inches.

The woman stopped briefly, went to my house to get my husband, but had left the scene before we could get any information. It turned out that our fur baby had a punctured lung and internal bleeding, the VSEC Hospital saved her life and thankfully she will survive. I hoped that the woman would have stopped by our house to inquire about our dog or made an effort to offer to pay some of her bill, which was $5,031.

I hope that she is reading this and her friends and neighbors read this and will realize how awful a person she is to have left the scene of an accident. I also think there should be a law regarding hit and runs for animals. For anyone reading this the women drove a red truck and probably lives in the vicinity of Patrician and Kirby or Violet or Ronald Drive and as I said, it was approximately 6 a.m. If we wouldn’t have taken our fur baby to the hospital, they said she would have died within a couple of hours.

Snoop is now on the road to recovery and doing well. However, I relive the incident over and over again. We both could have died because she was in such a hurry to get to what?

Please open supermarket

We need a supermarket at the Pathmark/ Food Basics sites on the 8700 and 8900 blocks of Frankford Ave. They took these two stores away and now people in the area (especially the elderly) have nowhere to shop. A ShopRite would be great or a Shop & Bag since they also closed that one that was on Welsh Road.

We are tax-paying people who need a supermarket convenient enough to get to and would create more jobs. Right now these two buildings are sitting empty waiting for vandalism.

Mark Cohen believes in our district and its people

I have lived in this neighborhood for over 40 years. New arrivals do not even know about our neighborhood, let alone what the issues are.

When I think of words to describe Mark Cohen, honor and integrity are two that pop up most frequently. Rep. Cohen has served this neighborhood faithfully for 30 years — that is quite an accomplishment in itself. I have never heard anything bad about Mark, unlike a lot of politicians on the local, state and national levels.

Did you ever hear Mark’s name mentioned in a scandal? The answer is no. Constituent issues are always taken care of by Mark and his staff.

He lives here. He eats here. His kid went to school here. In my opinion, Mark’s opponent is nothing but a carpetbagger who abandoned this district years ago.

My mother is a former Philadelphia teacher. She knows Mark is fighting the Republicans in Harrisburg to get proper funding for our schools. They want to take away my mother’s hard-earned pension. The Republican Party in Harrisburg wants to make sure of that, Mark is the Democratic chair of the committee that oversees pensions and has held the line. Our children need the best teachers we can get for them. To attract the best teachers, we need to pay them properly. Contrary to the Republicans in this state, Mark knows what a good education means, and what its value means. Mark helps everyone in our neighborhood, he always will.

Mark also fights for decent wages and benefits and also tries to keep good-paying jobs in our area. All of this, despite the attempts of state Republicans to block it all. The residents of our house are voting for Mark Cohen. We need to keep Mark Cohen in office. He believes in our district and its people. This district has been represented most honorably by Mark Cohen. He is a strong leader, elected by the people for the people. Let’s keep the ball rolling.
