Marisa Waxman, of the city Department of Revenue, last week urged members of the Lawncrest Community Association to apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit, which is a refundable tax credit implemented by the IRS that is available to low- to moderate-income individuals and families.
City Councilman Allan Domb is also urging Philadelphians to file.
Last year, 40,000 Philadelphians did not apply for the federal EITC, leaving almost $100 million on the table.
The deadline to file is April 18.
The maximum annual income is $53,267 for a married couple with three or more kids. The average refund is $2,400.
A free tax preparation site is at 7300 Bustleton Avenue. It is open Monday through Saturday.
