Dr. Seuss party at Holmesburg Library

Holmesburg Library, 7810 Frankford Ave. (at Hartel Avenue), will celebrate Read Across America Month and Dr. Seuss’ birthday on Wednesday, March 2, from 4 to 6 p.m.

There will be free LEAP after-school programming, such as Seuss-themed stories, arts and crafts and party favors. Kids will receive a snack, and are encouraged to dress as their favorite Dr. Seuss character.

Christopher Lloyd at Comic Con

Christopher Lloyd will appear at Wizard World Comic Con, which will take place June 3–5 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Lloyd will join two of his Back to the Future co-stars, Michael J. Fox and Lea Thompson, who were recently announced as additions to the celebrity roster.

Fox, Thompson and Lloyd join a group of celebrities already committed to attend, including Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flanery, Billy Martin, James Remar and Jason David Frank, with many more to be announced.

Wizard World Comic Con celebrates pop culture, movies, graphic novels, cosplay, comics, television, sci-fi, toys, video gaming, original art, collectibles and contests.

Show hours are Thursday, June 2, 3–8 p.m.; Friday, June 3, noon-7 p.m.; Saturday, June 4, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Sunday, June 5, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Food sale at local church

Crescentville United Methodist Church’s women’s fellowship group is selling pot pies and assorted dishes.

Dishes available are chicken pot pie ($4.50), beef pot pie ($5), shrimp pot pie ($5.50), chicken/broccoli ($5), chicken parmigiana ($5.50), roast turkey platter ($5.50), macaroni au gratin ($3) and apple deep dish ($2.50).

Chopin concert at Holy Family

The Polish Heritage Society of Philadelphia will hold its annual Fryderyk Chopin Concert on Sunday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at Holy Family University’s Sister Francesca Onley Education Center, 9801 Frankford Ave. The featured artist will be Kate Liu, bronze medal winner at the 2016 Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland. She is a student at the Curtis Institute of Music.

Tickets cost $30, or $20 for students, and are available at the door. A light reception will follow.

Benefit concert at VFW is March 4

A benefit concert will take place on Friday, March 4, at Michael Crescenz VFW Post 2819, 6850 Martins Mill Road in Lawndale.

Derek Warfield and The Young Wolfe Tones will entertain from 8 to 11 p.m.

The cost is $40, which includes unlimited draft beer, wine and soda. Proceeds benefit installation of an elevator at the Post.

Thrift shop to reopen

The thrift shop at Temple Menorah Keneseth Chai, at 4301 Tyson Ave. in Tacony, will reopen on Feb. 28.

Shop hours are weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Grants available for community groups

The Philadelphia Mills Advisory Council is seeking submissions from organizations within the 19154 ZIP code for community grants supplied by the mall ownership. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, March 1.

All groups applying must provide their name, address, contact person, telephone and fax numbers, email address, amount requested and the purpose of and number of people impacted by the grant.

Forms must be signed and dated and include the printed name and title of the person making the application.
