Volunteers clean up Northeast park

The Friends of Pennypack Park finished up their 2016 cleanup season with a monstrous haul of trash that they removed from the park in the area of Frankford and Solly avenues on Nov. 26.

More than 30 volunteers filled up 74 trash bags with litter and debris. They also collected two bagfuls of recyclable cans and eight discarded automobile tires. The list of objects pulled from the park included a milk crate, a shopping cart, a couple of padlocks, a bag of laundry, a coin acceptor from a washing machine, a backpack, three folding chairs, a broken computer, a broom, carpeting, a mattress and cover, a box spring, parts of several cooking grills, various food and beverage coolers, a cell phone charger, a stack of red Solo cups, two umbrellas, a bed comforter, part of an air conditioner, a machete, a 30-inch television, a baby stroller, flip-flops, a croquet ball, golf equipment, a Frisbee, a Jeep bumper, a hubcap, a 10-foot pipe, a “no trespassing/no dumping” sign from a Center City office building and a seashell sculpture.

The volunteers represented many schools including Decatur Elementary, St. Jerome’s, St. John’s Lutheran and Temple University. They included Christopher and Wayne Bulloch; Phung Ho; Tannatun Amika; Madilyn Hunter; Jackie and Elizabeth Stampone; Shannon, Kenneth and Erin Edelman; Dominic Vetri; Belinda Daisey; Dave Rosenblum; Dennis Gannon; Kenneth Larsen; Karen Kaczorek; Dean Lynd; Rich Glaser; Jason McConomy; Bill Ciabattoni; Marie Coyle; Tim McAndrews; Michael Tomlinson; Linda Davies; Debbie O’Connor; Robert McMunn; Roland Williams; Emma Schad; Alan Kaminsky; Ted Alber; Andrew Puzdrak; Joyce Ferrero; George Scholl; Jim Smyth; and Nance Kerns.

The monthly park cleanup days will go on hiatus for the winter, but will resume on Saturday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers should meet at the ballfield on Holme Avenue behind Nazareth Hospital.
