Police are investigating surveillance video of the altercation, but have been unable to interview either injured man because both are hospitalized and incapacitated, a police source said.

The confrontation happened at about 2:17 a.m. on the 2700 block of Comly Road in a parking lot near a Planned Parenthood office, which was closed at the time, as well as the Union Tap bar and Steve’s Prince of Steaks. Union Tap was scheduled to close at 2 a.m, while Steve’s was to remain open until 3. Police have not disclosed whether the combatants had patronized either business.

When police arrived at the scene, several men were restraining another man who they claimed had shot their 28-year-old friend. The shooting suspect, 25, was also suffering from numerous injuries consistent with having been beaten.

Paramedics took the shooting victim to Aria-Jefferson Health’s Torresdale campus, where he was admitted in critical condition. According to a police source, the shooting suspect was also taken to Aria-Torresdale with external and internal injuries throughout his body. Police did not disclose a suspected motive for the altercation. The identities of those involved have not been released. No criminal charges have been filed. ••
