Northeast Celebration to be held Saturday at Max Myers
The Take Back Your Neighborhood civic association will sponsor its annual Northeast Celebration on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Max Myers Playground, 1601 Hellerman St.
The day will include free food, music, a schoolbag giveaway, a magician, caricature artist, clowns, balloons, a glitter tattoo artist, carnival games, face painting, nail painting, train rides, spin art, flu shots, diabetes screenings and blood pressure monitoring and appearances by the Philadelphia Zoo, Academy of Natural Sciences, Franklin Institute, Fleisher Art Memorial and Clay Studio.
Home Depot will give lessons to children.
Elected officials and members of their staffs will be in attendance.
There will also be a tribute at 11:30 a.m. to outgoing state Rep. Mark Cohen.

Budweiser Clydesdales will march to Maggie’s
The Budweiser Clydesdales will be the star attraction at the free Northeast Philadelphia Community Day presented by City Councilman Bobby Henon and state Rep. Mike Driscoll, and hosted by Maggie’s Waterfront Cafe this Saturday, Aug. 27, from 1 to 8 p.m.
The family-oriented event will also feature pony rides, a moon bounce, live music (including performances by a bagpipe band), a firefighting boat on the Delaware River, hamburgers, hot dogs, soft pretzels and water ice. Applications taken for weight-loss program
The nonprofit Trevose Behavior Modification Program is accepting applications for its weight-loss program. There are a few openings in the group that meets on Thursday mornings in Bustleton.

Two free concerts announced in Tacony

Church thrift shop will reopen
Ann’s Attic, Holmesburg United Methodist Church’s second-hand shop, will reopen from the summer break on Wednesday, September 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The shop features household items, knick-knacks, jewelry, clothes, handbags, toys and tapes and CDs.
No item is over $5.
Ann’s Attic is located beneath the sanctuary of the church, 8118 Frankford Ave. Donations are accepted during business hours.
Proceeds from the shop support programs and services of the church, including the King’s Kitchen, the church’s daily meal program, as well as the weekly food cupboard. ••
Frankford announces reunion
The 1966 class of Frankford High School, the 100th graduating class, is planning a 50th-year reunion.

Smoking cessation classes at Nazareth
Nazareth Hospital, 2601 Holme Ave., will offer a series of free smoking and tobacco cessation classes to individuals looking to quit smoking cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and/or smokeless tobacco use.
Sessions include understanding addiction, behavior change strategies, coping mechanisms for urges and stress, education on healthy lifestyle choices, access to resources for nicotine replacement therapy and relapse prevention.

Dance registration at Chalfont Rec Center
Registration for Chalfont Recreation Center’s 2016–17 dance program will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, from noon to 2 p.m.
Chalfont Dancers is a dance program run through the city Department of Parks and Recreation.
Chalfont Recreation Center is located at 4330–34 Deerpath Lane.
The style of dance taught includes creative, ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and hip hop.
The classes are for people ages 3 to adult.
Classes meet once a week for an hour. They run from the first week of October until the end of March.

Applications now accepted for Neighborhood Assistance Program
Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development is seeking applications for the Neighborhood Assistance Program, which provides tax credits to encourage community organizations to invest in projects that serve distressed areas or support conservation efforts. The deadline is Sept. 16.
The state’s 2016–17 fiscal budget includes $18 million in NAP funding within the tax code. The program has five main components:
• Projects that serve distressed areas or that support neighborhood conservation that fall under affordable housing, community services, crime prevention, education, job training or neighborhood assistance;
• Projects that target specific problems that the state has designated as priorities in distressed areas;
• Long-term collaborations (five years or more) among business, government and community leaders to produce comprehensive, asset-based and relationship-driven approaches to community development;
• Charitable food programs that help regional food banks and emergency food providers; and,
• Enterprize zones programs for companies that invest in the rehabilitation, expansion or improvement of buildings or land within designated zones.

Grants available to assist yard-tree giveaways
TreePhilly in partnership with the Fairmount Park Conservancy and TD Bank is offering five grants of $500 along with 50 or 100 trees to Philadelphia community groups who wish to organize yard-tree giveaways in their neighborhoods this autumn.
Grant recipients will distribute free yard trees, such as fruit trees, flowering trees and shade trees, to their communities in October and November. Grant recipients will also receive $500 to underwrite the cost of the project, as well as event planning assistance and educational support from TreePhilly.
Civic association, community development corporations, nonprofits, schools, religious organizations and businesses are all eligible.
Only not-for-profit organizations and groups with fiscal sponsors may collect the cash award. Applications are due by Aug. 19.

Friends of Pennypack announce two cleanup events
The Friends of Pennypack Park invite the public to take part in a park cleanup event and a movie night later this month.
The cleanup will be on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Pennypack on the Delaware from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The entrance is on State Road just south of Rhawn Street. Follow the signs for the Riverview Home for the Aged. Volunteers can use the event to fulfill community service obligations. Participants should wear long pants and comfortable but sturdy shoes or sneakers. Bug repellent and sunblock are recommended. The FOPP will provide tools, equipment and refreshments.
On Monday, Aug. 29, the FOPP will hold a public showing of Home, starting at dusk at the Pine Road picnic area. The entrance is on Pine Road just south of Bloomfield Avenue.
